Lightning Resurrection, Part 1 is part of the Final Fantasy XIII Collaboration Event. The region features many of the characters from Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns.

How to Participate[]
Go to the Lightning Resurrection, Part I region spot on the World Map -- part of the red "specials" section.
You must have completed Chapter 1: Blank Slate to get there.
Story[]
A Warmech appears within a region of spiralling train tracks, and attacks a passing train. A lone fighter leaps to the train's defense, but finds the mech is protected by a shield she can't penetrate. Another figure - Wol - steps forward, and makes short work of the warmech. To the woman's surprise, Wol names her as Lightning, and says that she is mentioned directly in the Prophecy of Palamecia: a great force for chaos, or a great force for good. Either way, the Prophecy says the Warrior of Light will "free the Lightning"... whatever that means.
Lightning is unsure of things, since her strength appears to be gone... or was never there to begin with. She feels she may be a copy of the original. Since she's not very strong at present, Lightning asks Wol to help her until she can recover. Echo is suspicious, but Wol is willing to cooperate, and will deal with problems as they come along.
Lightning still has memories of home, which puts her at odds with the Laws of Palamecia, and that's likely to get her attacked... a lot. Not so different from her home, she says, where she and anyone around her were oppressed and killed until she had no direction left but to fight. She also pulls out a lump of crystal -- an Eidolith. It should be shining bright, but it's dark now. Suddenly it flies out of her hand and attaches itself to Wol. He's the light now. Within a few battles, Wol is really liking the boost in strength it gives, and comments that he may not give it back.
Lightning talks a bit about how she was hated and hunted where she came from. She saved her sister from a bad fate, and made a number of friends and allies on the way, but expressed a great deal of despair and anger along the way. Perhaps that's what's missing, says Wol. Getting the anger back might bring the strength back. The crystal might help, but Lightning doesn't want it back. And strength is what they'll be needing, because many of the enemy soldiers are turning into Cie'th monsters.
The battles are long and fierce, but the pair eventually make it to the end of the road, only to find a dead end. With no way to go forward, Lightning drops any shred of hope she had, and collapses in despair -- a perfect opportunity, it seems, for the Sicarius Bahamut to come screaming out of the sky on attack. But in a surprise move, light comes forth from Lightning's chest, evoking the Sicarius Odin to Lightning's defense. Bahamut flies off, and Wol can only watch as Lightning climbs onto Odin and gives chase... alone.

There are 73 areas in total across five Sectors, including bridges (one-way routes), switches (locked routes), and 27 treasure chests.
The region is paired with Crystarium I, which contains upgrades for Wol's Paradigms. You can access the Crystarium by clicking the blue CP icon in the corner of the Map, once the player has completed Sector 1.
New Play Mechanics[]
The area contains a number of new mechanics and obstacles during play in this region:
- Bridges -- these are one-way paths from one area to another. In each case, you can't teleport to the destination -- you must go through the bridge to reach it. A bridge will reverse direction each time you cross it.
- Switches -- some bridges will not be open to cross until a relevant Switch has been passed. Once this is done, the entrance of the bridge will be accessible.
- Red Alert -- entering a new Sector activates a Red Alert, which adds stronger enemies to every level. This can be cancelled by clearing the area with the yellow All-Clear Switch.
- Paradigms -- the Region has an extra set of benefits that can be invoked for one turn each. These are enabled and enhanced by completing areas within the Crystarium I Region. Benefit sets include
Commando (attack),
Ravager (break), and
Sentinel (defense), with the occasional
Shared enhancement.
